The Rainbow Series
Two books. One colorful road.
Both titles are available in paperback and eBook, and can be read in any order. They share the same three friends, the same rainbow road, and the same belief: every child gets to move at their own pace.

Book one
If My Feelings Were the Colors of Rainbow
“It’s okay to feel your feelings, as they come and as they go.”
A children’s picture book that uses colorful storytelling, playful rhymes and memorable characters to help young readers recognize, understand and express their emotions.
Red might feel mad — feel it for a moment, then think of reasons to be glad. Green might feel sick, but feelings change. Blue is the color we feel when we are coping. Each color gives a child a handle on something that was, a page earlier, just a storm inside them.
Designed to spark conversation between children and the adults who care for them, the book encourages empathy, emotional awareness and healthy self-expression.
Helpful for
- Naming a feeling out loud before it boils over
- Pausing with an emotion instead of pushing it away
- Sensory overwhelm, and coming back down from it
- Fear of the dark, and the rest that darkness brings
- Hope, growth and self-worth as the story closes

Book two
If Our Foods Were the Colors of Rainbow
“Sometimes bravery starts with a taste, even if we make a silly face.”
A children’s picture book that invites young readers to explore colorful foods through curiosity, imagination and play — rather than rules, pressure or perfection.
The same three friends travel the same rainbow road, this time through strawberries and salsa, tangerines and pumpkin pie, avocados and edamame, blueberry pancakes and purple cabbage slaw. Nourishing foods and sweet favorites share the road, because a book about eating should look like real family life.
There is no clean-plate lesson here. A child is allowed to watch from afar, and the ending says so out loud: “if we try and still say no, it’s okay, because we are learning as we grow.”
Helpful for
- Hesitation around new foods, textures and smells
- Giving a child the words for “I’m not ready yet”
- Turning mealtime into discovery instead of a standoff
- Balance — colorful whole foods and treats, side by side
- Celebrating small steps instead of waiting for big ones

Meet Lumi
The little boy at the center of both books.
Lumi is the small blond boy who appears on every page of the series. He was lovingly inspired by Keely’s son, whose way of experiencing the world continues to shape her writing.
She chose not to use her son’s real name so that he can decide for himself, when he is older, how much of his story he wants to share. In many ways Lumi stands in for every child who deserves to feel seen, understood and celebrated exactly as they are.
