Every feeling has a place
Lumi gets mad, scared and shy, and he also gets brave, calm and proud. No feeling is rushed or pushed aside. Every color, and every feeling, gets its moment.
Meet the friends
At the heart of the Rainbow Series is a growing circle of friends, each experiencing big feelings, exploring new foods and discovering the world in their own unique way.
Who they are
The friends travel the rainbow road together throughout the series, exploring feelings, foods and everyday experiences in their own individual ways. They don't need grand adventures or magical powers to make their stories meaningful. They feel things, try things, and are given the space to move at their own pace.
Each friend brings something different to the page, while leaving room for children from many backgrounds, abilities and families to see pieces of themselves in the story. The goal isn't for every child to identify with the same character. It's for children to discover connection through both the experiences they share and the differences that make them unique.
The boy at the center
Lumi is the heart of the Rainbow Series, inspired by Keely's son and his unique way of experiencing the world. He is her muse, her greatest inspiration, and the reason the Rainbow Series began.
His character carries pieces of that inspiration while remaining distinctly his own. Even his name was chosen with intention, preserving the space between Lumi's story and the real child who inspired him.
Lumi gets mad, scared and shy, and he also gets brave, calm and proud. No feeling is rushed or pushed aside. Every color, and every feeling, gets its moment.
New foods can be difficult for Lumi, and sometimes he simply isn't ready to try them. His story makes room for hesitation and "not yet," allowing him to move at his own pace.
As Keely's son began regressing in his food journey, she wanted to make new foods feel less intimidating and more like something to explore. The story grew from a simple idea: food can be fun without being forced.
The two friends beside him
Lumi's two friends are with him on every page — sharing the same feelings, tasting the same foods, and reacting in their own way. Together the three of them show that there is more than one way to feel something, and more than one way to be brave.
Where Lumi hesitates, one of his friends might dive right in. Where one of them feels shy, another feels bold. Seeing three different children respond three different ways to the same color or the same food is what makes the road feel like a real friendship, and not just one child's story.
The rainbow, in feelings
Every color in the series stands for something the three friends feel — a small, colorful language families can use together.
A note from Keely
“The rainbow feels like hope. Feels like following your dreams.”
