Questions

Frequently asked

Answers for parents, teachers, librarians and therapists. If your question isn’t here, get in touch.

What ages are the Rainbow Series books for?

Both books are written for children roughly ages 2 to 7. Younger children enjoy the colors, rhythm and illustrations; older children start using the color language on their own to describe how they feel or how a new food went.

Do the books need to be read in order?

No. Each book stands completely on its own. They share the same three friends and the same rainbow road, so reading both gives children a consistent language across feelings and food, but either one is a fine place to start.

Are these books only for autistic or neurodivergent children?

No. The series was inspired in part by the author’s own family, but it was written deliberately for every child, every family and every background. No page names a diagnosis. Families have found the books useful for sensory differences and selective eating, and equally useful for children who simply have big feelings or a cautious palate.

Are the books available in hardcover?

Currently both titles are available in paperback and as eBooks.

Where can I buy them?

Both books are available on Amazon: If My Feelings Were the Colors of Rainbow and If Our Foods Were the Colors of Rainbow. For classroom or clinic sets, see the bulk order page.

Can I order copies for my classroom, library or clinic?

Yes. Bulk pricing is available on ten or more copies, with signed and personalized options. Visit the school visits and bulk orders page to request a quote.

Does Keely do school visits or virtual read-alouds?

Yes. Visits run twenty to thirty minutes and include a read-aloud, a color activity and a short Q&A. Virtual sessions are available anywhere; in-person visits are arranged by region.

Who is Lumi?

Lumi is the little boy who appears throughout the series. He was inspired by the author’s son, though she chose not to use his real name so that he can decide for himself, when he is older, how much of his story to share.

Are there printable activities to go with the books?

Yes — a free printable pack with a feelings color wheel, a rainbow food tracker, read-aloud conversation starters and a one-page classroom guide. Join the newsletter to receive it.

Is there another book coming?

Yes. More books in the Rainbow Series are in progress. The newsletter is the first place new titles are announced.
